About EDGE
The office of Economic Development and Global Engagement (EDGE) is committed to guiding one of Washington State University’s four strategic goals: to lead in relevant local, national, and global engagement. We are a resource for those who are eager to engage in business and research in Washington State and around the world.
Research for the State, Nation, and World
Our research in the life sciences, energy, clean technologies, and agricultural sciences provide a strong foundation for engagement on all levels. EDGE works to promote that research internationally. Likewise, we collaborate with members of the international community on ways in which we might partner to solve some of the world’s big issues, including climate change and improving global health. Comprised of multiple units, EDGE works to grow the economy and bring a global focus to local initiatives:
- Our Small Business Development Centers provide counseling to local small business owners.
- The Office of Economic Development provides the link between research and commercial markets, leading to job growth and economic vitality.
- Nationally, the WSU Research Foundation seeks to drive innovation through the transfer of technology and inventions from the university to the private sector.
- Our faculty and staff represent WSU on national boards and committees for higher education, economic development, and international initiatives.
- On a global scale, our International Programs Research and Development team works works in twenty countries and every year, we send nearly 600 students abroad to intern and study, which provides them with a global outlook when they graduate.
These are just a few of the ways that EDGE is seeking to lead the university in its engagement efforts.
