Application FAQ

Q: What is MyStudyAbroad?
A: MyStudyAbroad is the on-line application system for the WSU Education Abroad Office. You can also use this online tool to search for programs as well as to start your WSU Education Abroad application. You will need a WSU username and password to begin an application.

Q: Who can apply using MyStudyAbroad?
A: Any WSU student on any WSU campus can submit their WSU Education Abroad Application through MyStudyAbroad. Students should verify that they have set-up email forwarding for their WSU email addresses prior to logging into the system. Students who apply to WSU as non-degree seeking students can also apply through MyStudyAbroad. IMPORTANT: If you are a student at another university you must apply to WSU as a non-degree seeking student BEFORE completing an education abroad application through MyStudyAbroad.

Q: I want to attend WSU as an Exchange Student - can I apply using MyStudyAbroad?
A: No! Unfortunately, your application in MyStudyAbroad must be initiated by the Education Abroad Office. Once initiated, a member of the WSU staff will contact you with your user name and password. You will be instructed to log into the system and complete the application materials.

Q: When should I start my application in MyStudyAbroad?
A: You should start your WSU study abroad application in MyStudyAbroad at the same time you start the application that your program provider requires. All WSU applications must be completed by the application deadline. Please note: there are several documents that must be physically submitted to our office (such as a copy of the photo page in your passport). Completing the application often can take longer than you might expect, so start early.

Q: How do I login to complete an application?
A: You should use your secure WSU campus login. (This is the same login you would use for myWSU.)

Q: I am having trouble logging in. What should I do?
A: If you are still having trouble logging in, please contact our office at 509-335-6204, or edabroad@wsu.edu.

Q: Do I still need to complete an application for my study abroad program?
A: Yes! The MyStudyAbroad application is only WSU's application. This application does not take the place of any other application(s) required by your program provider. Typically you can find your program's application in their brochure or on their website. Remember: you really aren't going abroad until you have completed both applications!

Note: WSU's Faculty-led Programs require only one application (the WSU application) since they are our own programs.

Q: I would like to cancel my application. What should I do?
A: That depends on when you are canceling.
Prior to the WSU application deadline: Login to your MyStudyAbroad account and click the withdraw button next to the name of the program you wish to withdraw from, and provide a reason for your cancellation. No fees will be assessed to your student account.

After the WSU application deadline, and before the start of the semester: Send an e-mail to edabroad@wsu.edu requesting that we cancel your program. The e-mail should include your reason for cancellation, along with your name, ID# and the name of the program you are cancelling. You will remain responsible for all application and orientation fees. In addition, students on Faculty-led programs may also remain responsible for partial or all program costs.

Q: I would like to change programs. What should I do?
A: Contact the Education Abroad Office at 509-335-6204. We will switch your program - this will allow you to use all of the materials and questionnaires you have already submitted and attach them to the new program.

Q: I would like to delay my application. What should I do?
A: If you would like to delay your application to another semester, contact the Education Abroad Office at 509-335-6204, or edabroad@wsu.edu. Please tell us the semester you would like to delay your application to. Depending on the length of time before you plan to study abroad we may be able to retain your application.
