Choosing Classes

Choosing classes is important consideration for incoming exchange students. To find out what classes are being offered for the semester you will attend Washington State University, go to www.metro.wsu.edu, In the links section of the page, click on "Schedules of Classes." On the next screen, click on the semester you will attend WSU.

Then you will see a list of all the course prefixes at WSU. Clicking on any of the prefixes will show you what classes are offered under that prefix, the time each class meets, where it is taught, how many seats are available and the Schedule Line Number (SLN). The SLN is the first number on every line. If there is no SLN, you will have to contact the department about enrolling in that class. If a course SLN, prefix, and number are listed in red, then the class is full.

Note: This screen is only updated once a day at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time and therefore may not accurately reflect the current status of classes if you are checking in the middle of the day. For example, a course may show 1 open seat, but when you try to sign up for the class, it says it's full. On the other hand, the class could be in red, indicating it is full but actually someone dropped it and there is an open seat.

Level of Courses

The level of the courses is indicated by their number. For example, all 100-200 level courses are lower level, more generalized courses. They are usually for Freshman and Sophomore (1st and 2nd year) students.

All 300-400 level courses are upper level courses usually only available for Junior or Senior (3rd and 4th year) students.

All 500 level and above courses are graduate level (5th and 6th year) courses. You may only enroll in graduate classes with approval from the instructor. If you decide to add one of these courses to your schedule, you must contact the instructor either by email before you arrive, or speak with them once you are in Pullman and ask permission to take the graduate level course from them.

Joint Courses

WSU lists some courses called "joint courses," which are taught at the University of Idaho in Moscow, 8 miles from Pullman. You may enroll in these courses through WSU's website, but be aware that you will have to secure transportation to the class along with any additional required meetings in Moscow.

METRO

The METRO system provides online class registration.
