Housing

All incoming exchange students must live in on-campus housing. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you are coming to WSU on a room and board exchange, you are required to live in one of the Residence Halls on campus.

On this site, you can choose the type of housing you prefer, such as residence halls or apartments. Remember, if you are on a room and board exchange with WSU, you must choose Residence Hall.

Will I have a roommate?: Unless you live in Orton or McEachern Halls, it is very likely that you will have a roommate. Having a roommate is a very common experience for most American students as they enter college and university. Roommates are an excellent way to make friends, and to get connected to other people and activities on campus. Many students find that they love having someone to talk about their experiences with. At the beginning of the year, your Resident Assistant will help you make your roommate experience the most positive it can be by having you and your roommate fill out a "Roommate Agreement", which will help you and your roommate discuss some of the common issues that arise when sharing living space.

What is a Resident Assistant and what do they do?: Resident assistants (RA's) are students who are hired to work in the residence halls to serve as a resource for students. RA's provide activities for residence to participate in together. Some of these activities have included movie nights, cultural food nights, games, trips to athletic events, holiday celebrations and more. In addition, RA's know a lot about the campus and community, and will be able to help you find resources that will make your time at WSU fun, healthy, and comfortable. Finally, resident assistants are around to make sure that communities are fun and safe! Your RA will be more than willing to help you with anything you may encounter during your study abroad experience.

What is a Residential Education Director, and what do they do?: A Residential Education Director (RED) is a full time university staff person who oversees the operations of the hall, or a group of halls. The RED oversees the Resident Assistant staff, and also serves as a great resource for anything students may need while at WSU. Additionally, RED's help promote safety in the community, while also enforcing rules and policies as needed. WSU's Residential Education Directors love to work with students, and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have during your study abroad experience.

Meal Plans

Just a note of caution about the meal plans. If you purchase a meal plan (such as 3, the highest level) and then have money left over at the end of your last semester at WSU, you will lose that extra money on the plan. You do not receive a refund for it. You may want to purchase a lower meal plan because you can add more money to your plan at any time during the semester with no additional charge for adding

Applying for Housing

When you are ready to apply for housing, complete the housing application. You must complete many steps on this application, but when you reach the end, you will come to the section called Payment Options. Choose the last payment option. You will still have to pay the $60 deposit by credit card and you can do that online. You are responsible for the $60 deposit as well as all hall dues, regardless of the exchange program you are participating in. You will get the $60 deposit back at the end of your contract if you have not damaged your room and no cleaning is required. Exact requirements for return of the deposit are stipulated in the online housing contract.

Incoming exchange students are encouraged to consider McCroskey Hall for housing. Many of our exchange students stay there and have recommend it highly!

Usually you can move into the Residence Halls the Friday before orientation begins, but there is a small extra fee per day that you must pay if you move in before the official start of the contract for the semester. (The contract start date is the Sunday before orientation.) The additional cost for the Friday and Saturday before the contract starts is $10-$20 each day. Your dining account is turned on the Saturday before orientation.
