Winning Photographs
Category 1: Exploring Natural & Urban Landscapes - Kevin Gowan
“Patagonia”
ISA Valaparaiso, Chile

"This is a photo of myself on a 7 day hike in the Patagonia Region after I completed the school semester of Fall 2008. Behind me are Los Cuernos of the Torres del Paine."
Category 2: Discovering Local Culture - Daniel Snook
“Riding the Energy, Italy”
DIS, Copenhagen, Denmark, Spring 2009
"Siena Italy is well known for its historic beauty and the 600 year old bareback horse race that occurs twice a year known as the Palio. It is an intensely dramatic and emotional event for the whole city. The crowds press into the town square as tightly as possible and the roar of the crowd echoes between the buildings. The Jockeys try their best to control their horses in the midst of the colors, motions, and deafening sounds surrounding them. It was a great opportunity to experience the historic culture and life that is Seina."
Category 3: Cougar Pride Abroad - Philip Denman
"Look Out Below!”
Australearn, AUT University, New Zealand, Spring 2009
"New Zealand, and Queenstown in particular, is known as the adventure capital of the world. After a morning jetboat ride I jumped off the Kawarau Bridge just outside of Queenstown, this is the first site of commercial bungy jumping, and sport pioneered by the Kiwi AJ Hackett"
Category 4: International Friendships - Krista Meyer
“Friendship: 'Solid as Rock' ”
Australearn, Griffith University, Australia, Spring 2009

"During my study abroad experience in Australia, I was also able to visit the gorgeous country of New Zealand. Four others girls from Griffith University and myself decided to backpack across the northern region of the south island for about 12 days. We heard of a place called Split Apple Rock near Able Tasman National Park and decided to check it out. Even though it was autumn, my best mate and I decided to swim in the frigid, cold waters and take advantage of this adventurous photo opportunity! Needless to say, it wasn't easy to get out there but totally worth it!"
