Peer Advisors and Interns
Becoming an Education Abroad Peer Advisor is a great way to stay involved with the international community when you return from your program. Peer Advising is an opportunity to share your experiences with other students, as well as inspire and help them live their dreams of going abroad. The Education Abroad Office also has yearly appointed internships in Outreach and Marketing and Advertising. See an Education Abroad advisor for more information on these internships.

Peer Advisor Job Description
Commitment:
One semester, 2-8 hours/week. Due to the busy nature of the EA Office, we request that students commit to the entire semester.
Compensation:
Students may be eligible for up to 3 internship credits per semester upon approval by academic departments.
Students who serve as a Peer Advisor for more than one semester may have the potential to move into a paid position, although these opportunities are limited and cannot be guaranteed.
Students who participate in the Education Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation Skit will be pad for play practice and performance at $7.93/hr.

Peer Advisor Program Description
- Peer Advisors are an integral part of the Education Abroad Office. The goal of the program is to provide students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of international education and advance global citizenship. Peer Advisors are responsible for aiding the advisors and other office staff in conducting Cougs Abroad Advising Sessions, developing and presenting at outreach events, assisting students in the office in the Resource Room and assisting in office projects. In addition, Peer Advisors participate in special events including EA Fairs, Pre-Departure Orientation, Mom’s Weekend Open House, Re-Entry Workshop, etc. Peer Advisors will attend scheduled training sessions and group meetings and are responsible for holding weekly office hours. Peer Advisors are automatically Ambassadors, and will have their name, photo, email, and where they studied on a list in our office and posted on the EA website.
- Peer Advisors participate in Global Citizenship training and are required (if receiving credit) to attend 5 globally-focused events throughout the semester (see schedule for more details or discuss this with an advisor).
Qualifications
- Successfully studied abroad for a minimum of 6 weeks (while a WSU student) and be interested in the field of International Education
- Able to commit to regular office hours, a set number of presentations, and training sessions. Must be willing to work some day, evening, and weekend hours
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills
- Able to advise students in an accurate and a professional manner, and uphold the policies and procedures of WSU and the Education Abroad Office
