MBA Student Learns about the Opera Business

Brian JohnsonI came to Kongsberg, Norway to study International Business for my MBA program. Because I had already taken both of the classes being offered on the faculty-led program, Professor Trevino kindly made arrangements for me to do an independent study. My project was to write a case analysis of a company in the Kongsberg area. Having an undergraduate degree in MIS, coupled with the fact that I'm a huge nerd, the company choice was simple: I decided to write about Opera Software, the creator of the Norwegian Web Browser.

Two days later I was on the train again - this time for a job interview!

To initiate my project I traveled by train from Kongsberg to Oslo to meet with the Marketing & Communications Director of Opera. I was armed with a number of pointed questions. The director answered each of them better than I could have expected and towards the end of my interview suggested I apply for a position with Opera. Two days later I was on the train again - this time for a job interview!

I spent the remainder of the Norway program working on my project and ironing out the details of possible employment. To make a long story short, I liked my three week program in Norway so much that I somehow turned it into a six month stay. I now spend my days working at an amazing company in a country that I've come to love!
