Director, Pamela Duran

Pamela DuranPamela earned her master's degree in TESL from the University of Idaho focusing on ESL writing, and has worked in the field for 20 years. Pam holds a bachelor's degree in Education and majored in both English and French. She spent a year studying in France, and she taught French and English in the public high schools for seven years. Pamela has been at the IALC since Fall 1988. In her position as Director of the IALC, she also serves as Associate Director of International Programs at WSU. Previously, she held the position of International Student Advisor for three years and the position of Assistant Director for five years.

Instructor, Jeannie Bagby

Jeanne AndersonJeannie received her M.A. in English/Composition and Rhetoric as well as a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Washington State University. She has extensive experience in teaching composition at the college level and is a professional editor. She recently completed additional coursework in Counseling Psychology at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jeannie has been an instructor at the IALC since 1992. She has served as the Curriculum Coordinator and is presently the College Advisor.

Instructor, Janice Corey

Janice CoreyJanice holds a master's degree in TESL from the University of Idaho and has taught in the field since 1997. She spent her middle school years living in Pakistan and has traveled extensively throughout Asia. In addition to teaching, Janice is involved in student activities, summer programs and marketing. She is also certified by the Institute of Language and Phonology to offer accent modification training.

Instructor, Anne Drobish-Shahat

Anne Drobish-ShahatAnne is currently completing her master's degree in TESL from the University of Idaho and has been teaching at the IALC since the summer of 2004. She took a leave of absence for a little over a year to teach in Japan in 2005. As often as possible, Anne spends a month in the winter visiting Egypt where her husband's family lives. Along with teaching, Anne has worked as the Assistant Coordinator of summer programs.

Instructor, Sharon Fraser-Allen

Sharon Fraser-AllenSharon Fraser Allen holds a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. She also has a Bachelor's of Education, with an ESL specialization, and a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and Psychology. Sharon has over 15 years experience teaching English as a Second Language in the U.S.A, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. She has been a member of the IALC faculty since 2004.

Instructor, Isabel Haller

Isabel HallerIsabel Haller holds a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and is currently working on her master's degree in TESL at the University of Idaho. Isabel also holds her teaching certification for the state of Arizona and is ESL endorsed. She has worked in the field of ESL in public and private schools for seven years. Isabel has worked at the Language Center since 2006.

Instructor, Wanda Hvezda

Wanda HvezdaWanda holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with a concentration in ESL from the School for International Training in Vermont, and has taught in the field since 1991, including teaching EFL in Japan. She came to teach at the IALC in 1997. Wanda is currently the International Student Advisor but also teaches in the program. She is certified by the Institute of Language and Phonology to train students to modify their accents.

Instructor, Karen Jennings

Karen JenningsKaren holds a master's degree in English Education with an emphasis in TESL from Temple University and has worked in the field since 1988. She also has a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and worked in that field in the public schools and hospitals for nine years. In addition to teaching, Karen has held the positions of short-term program coordinator and Faculty Development Specialist at the IALC. Karen is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and additionally has been trained and licensed by the Institute of Language and Phonology to offer accent modification training.

Instructor, Tom Lee

Tom LeeTom received his master's degree in TESL from the University of Idaho. This goes along with a graduate degree in Vocational Education, and undergraduate degrees in Animal Science and Spanish. He has worked in various fields, the most recent, before ESL, being the agri-business industry. He has also had the good fortune of living and traveling in Latin America and is currently taking classes at WSU in this area. Tom has hopes of someday teaching English outside of the United States.

Instructor, David Martin

David MartinDavid Martin earned a M.A. TESL in 2000 from the University of Idaho and has worked at the IALC since August of 2001. He has been tutoring and teaching both ESL and native English speaking students since 1997 and has recently received his teaching certificate for teaching in the public schools (K-12). He has also worked as a freshman composition teacher at WSU and has supported courses through Distance Degree Programs. Currently, he is completing his research project to obtain a masters degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction.

Instructor, Jeff Moss

Jeff MossJeff Moss received his master's degree in TESL from the University of Idaho, and also has bachelor's degrees in Foreign Languages and Biblical Studies. He started teaching English to speakers of other languages in 2000, and has taught ESL/EFL in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Russia, as well as the United States. He loves foreign languages and has at different times studied Russian, Spanish, ancient Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Arabic, Chinese, German, and Korean. Jeff began teaching at the IALC in fall 2004.

Instructor, Janet Murai

Janet MuraiAfter having taught English in Japan for five years, Janet returned to the University of Idaho for her master's degree in TESL. She started working at the IALC in 2006 as a part-time instructor. Janet especially loves teaching grammar classes and learning about the students and their cultures. She and her husband, who is from Japan, are farmers south of Pullman..

Instructor, Barbara Nasralla

Barbara NasrallaBarbara has a BA in French Language and Literature from Whitman College; she earned her master's degree in TESL from the School for International Training in Vermont. She has worked in the field since1989 and has been at the IALC since 1993. During her appointment at the IALC, she took a leave of absence for two years to teach in the United Arab Emirates. She has returned to the IALC and is currently the Curriculum Coordinator and an instructor in the program.

Instructor, Jeff Nelson

Jeff NelsonJeff holds a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Idaho, and is a Red Hat Certified Engineer. He is interested in Computer-Assisted Language Learning and has been teaching English since 1994. He has lived in Ecuador and United Arab Emirates, and does volunteer work in Colombia. He likes to ride motorcycles and cook insects.

Instructor, Diana Presley

Diana PresleyDiana holds a master's degree in Teaching ESL/EFL from the School for International Training with an EFL/ESL Teaching Certificate from Seattle University. After previous schooling and work in business management, she has taught in the EFL/ESL field since 1993 in the U.S., Mexico, and Japan. She provided Adult ESL classes for Spokane Community College and piloted/teaches the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.-sponsored English Interface for Business and Engineering Majors course for Washington State University ESL Business and Engineering students.

Instructor, Joanne Sellen

Joanne SellenJoanne Sellen has worked at the IALC since 1992. She has a Masters of Arts in TESOL from the University of Michigan. She is presently working toward her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies in Education and ESL at Washington State University. She has taught English as a Second Language in the U.S. Mexico, and Japan, and has done teacher training at Universities in Mexico, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. She is the author of the Journeys Grammar Series.

Instructor, Elena Smith

Elena SmithElena received her Doctorate in English Linguistics from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, and holds a master's degree in Philology in German languages from the same university. She has taught in the field in Russia, Finland, Japan, and the U.S. Elena currently serves as The Washington Association for the Education of Speakers of Other Languages (WAESOL) Board. She has presented at numerous conferences for ESL instructors. She began working at the IALC in 2000.

Instructor, Mary Ullrich

Mary UllrichMary earned a master's degree in Teaching from the University of Idaho and has completed additional coursework in ESL and Danish. She has worked in the field since 1968 with EFL experience in Ghana and Malawi, and she started teaching at the IALC in 1989. Mary has coordinated special programs, been the IALC Activities Coordinator and worked as a foreign student advisor for International Programs. She also designed and taught a pilot orientation course for new international students entering WSU. Mary is also the principal author of the ESL text, Sailing Through English, by Delta Publishing.

Instructor, Jen Walser

Jen WalserJen Walser received her master’s degree in TESL from the University of Idaho focusing on ESL speech. She holds a bachelor’s degree in German from the same university and has taught German at the University of Idaho and Washington State University. Prior to coming to the IALC, she taught EFL in Europe, ESL at the University of Idaho, and ESL online for the Carrot English Institute in South Korea. Jen is certified by the Institute of Language and Phonology to offer accent modification training. She has worked at the IALC since fall 2004.
