Higher Education Partnership
Project Description

Washington State University (WSU) and University of Botswana (UB) have initiated a strategic partnership to further develop and test a model for higher educational partnerships. The project - Closing The Gap Between Science, Education And Application For On-The-Ground Impact: A Higher Education Challenge - builds on previous research and adds new elements, partners and approaches to accelerate development results and build a mutually beneficial, sustainable strategic partnership.
This proposal supports USAID’s Regional Support Program for Central and Southern Africa (RCSA) and its Strategic Objective 3 (SO3) – Increased cooperation in the management of shared natural resources. It also supports the US African Education for Development and Democracy Initiative (EDDI).
An interrelated set of partner activities will improve performance and build capacity in management and use of natural resources in Botswana, Southern Africa and the US. Planned results are:
- The design of a joint advanced degree program in environmental science.
- Expansion and improvement, using information technology, of educational content relevant to Botswana, Southern Africa and the US.
- Adoption of improved natural resource technologies and practices through applied research and outreach in cooperation with community partners.
- Adaptation and testing of a community-based natural resource management monitoring and evaluation system in Botswana.
- The development of an improved partnership model, testing and sharing it with stakeholders.
