Argentina Reforestation
Project Description
The Argentina Agroforestry project seeks to improve rural livelihoods via the introduction of sustainable land and resource management, focusing to improve conservation practices and generation of income in the Salta and Jujuy provinces. The program objectives are to increase the quantity and diversity of arboreal species in the areas of highly erodible soils, stony ground, and hillside/mountainous land. The program benefits are prudent utilization of natural resources with a better understanding of working with the environment. A select group of farms will be contacted and encouraged to plan native and non-native tree species for wind and soil erosion control.
Benefits identified through this project:
- Encourage the utilization of unproductive ground
- Encourage the use of trees for hail and severe weather protection
- Windbreaks
- Provide wood self-sufficiency for rural areas
- Deliver workshops to farmers and the public on the benefits of working with trees
- Identify alternative forest products and markets through proper resource use
