Permanent Residency

Washington State University follows an established Policy for employment-based permanent residence sponsorship for qualifying foreign employees on faculty teaching and research positions.

This Policy was established on July 25, 2003 by the University with the approval of the Provost/Academic Vice-President and the Deans Council. Please note that the Center for Human Rights (CHR), Human Resource Services (HRS) and the Office of International Students and Faculty (OISS) have been charged with the decision making and processing responsibilities for all employment-based petitions filed on behalf of the University.

Hiring Department

In sponsoring an employee for permanent residence, the hiring department must work through the channels established at Washington State University and may not work independently of Washington State University with an outside attorney to sponsor an employee for employment-based permanent residence. State law prohibits outside attorneys from filing petitions on behalf of Washington State University.

Please familiarize yourself with the Policy. For questions regarding the Policy and sponsorship of foreign employees, please contact the Provost’s Office and/or OISS.
