Extending Status
A J-1 student who is unable to complete their program of study prior to the completion date listed on the DS-2019, must apply to her/his Exchange Visitor Program RO/ARO for a program extension PRIOR to the expiration date listed in item #3 of the ds-2019.
To request a Program Extension, a J-1 student should contact the RO/ARO of her/his Exchange Visitor Program two months before the authorized stay or DS-2019 expires. The extension must be processed prior to the expiration date of the previous DS-2019.
