Peer Mentor Program
The International Peer Mentor Program is a structured program designed to assist international students in adjusting academically, culturally, and socially to the United States and WSU. “A mentor is an experienced person who offers support, guidance, and counsel to a less experienced person. A mentor is a role model as well as a friend.”
Peer Mentors go through a formal training program and are then assigned a group of international student mentees. The mentors are expected to help their international student mentees upon arrival and during their first semester in the United States , as well as assist them with difficulties they may have with communication, social relationships, academic classes and expectations, and general cultural adjustment. Mentors are required to meet or make contact with their mentees on a weekly basis, and provide assistance as needs arise.
